Hilux

I always wanted to try and fix up a car. It wasnt that I was into them but like everything else I do, it was the challenge of learning a broad range of skills and doing it efficiently. I sortoff just ended up with this car as I was owed money by a former employee when I owned Concrete Technology Installation Services. It was eventually used as work vehicle as apart of that business. The project worked out pretty good.

It was in a bad way when I started, so much rust and the engine needed replacing. I rebuilt a V8 and repaired the rust. The chasis was completely stripped of rust and paint and redone in 2pak. The body was also 2pak. I wish i had a few more pics of the end result as some of it was done really well, such as the wiring which was a complete mess. It was all pulled out and redone as new, if not better. The tray was completely replaced with a laqured wood backboard and an aluminium base. The side boards were never completed. the interior was all redone as well and included a couple of recaro seats etc. The ute is still active, although someone else owns it now, I suppose its about 45 years old.

This was just a bit of practisce when I was learning 3D Max 25 years ago. As I had the ute sitting around, I took a bunch of reference pics and had a go at creating it. As usual it was the materials and lighting that frustrated me back then. The tools in max were alot less capable than they are now and trying to get a realistic result was alluding me. I really wanted to get into 3D full time and be great at it but life had other plans. Still, it worked out ok considering how little I knew about 3D at the time.
